So all the breastfeeding/pump to bottle Moms know that at some point in your journey, you will need to boost supply a bit. I have a few tricks I have discovered that have seriously worked for me! That said, everyone is different and what works for this Momma Bear might not work for you, but they are worth trying!
Drink LOTS of water – like an aggressive amount of water. The amount of water needed to make an adequate about of breastmilk is seriously insane. I try to drink at least 8 glasses a day but it is usually more like 10 to get enough supply for the baby. I am always thirsty since I started breastfeeding and I have come to understand that is pretty par for the course with breastfeeding Mommas.
Boobie Bites – Everyone has a recipe for these things but I have tweaked a sort of no bake protein ball to work for me. I don’t like coconut and most of these things have coconut in them so insert this Momma Bear getting creative. Combine all these ingredients and roll them into a ball, then put them in the fridge and grab when you need!
1 cup of old-fashioned oatmeal
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup ground flaxseed
1/3 cup of honey
1/2 tablespoon Brewer’s Yeast
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
Protein Pancakes with Brewers Yeast – Pancakes are a big deal in my family. While Papa Bear is not a huge fan of them, everyone else in my family is obsessed. I love the Kodiak Cakes because they are filled with good digestable protein. I put dark chocolate chips in them just because they make me happy, and sometimes Momma just needs to do something for Momma. I have recently discovered that if I put flax seed and brewers yeast in the mix it’s almost immediate that I have more liquid gold for the baby.
Advocare Rehydrate – This stuff is chalked full of goodness and it helps me stay hydrated and gives me a break from just water so I love it. I try to drink one a day which has really helped get my supply to to what Baby Bear needs.
Pump Extra – I hate this one, I am one of those people who hates to pump. I have tried all the tricks in the book and it still hurts me every time. However, this is a great way to boost your supply when needed. My Baby Bear eats five times a day and I throw in one extra pump a day to try and keep up with him.
Eat Enough Of the Good Stuff – It’s important to make sure you eat enough when you are breastfeeding. It is natural to try and get on a diet to try and get your body back, but don’t do that when you are breastfeeding. Make sure you are eating enough calories but not of just junk food. Try and eat lots of fruits and veggies. I grab boobie bites, cheese sticks, and apple slices for one of my many snacks in a day. I used to do the eating six times a day of small meals with a balance of all the food types, but now I am closer to 8 or 10 times a day of eating. If I cut out these meals I don’t make enough and find myself reaching for empty cards or just junk food. We know well balanced diets are good for us so what you take in, you give to your baby! Eat a proper well balanced diet and your baby will get all that good stuff as well.
Oatmeal for Breakfast – It’s important to eat breakfast quickly in the morning to help boost your supply. I like to do steal coat oatmeal in my Instapot because I can turn it on and walk away, then when it is done I can doctor it up with some extra PB2 and dark chocolate chips. Papa Bear likes to add blueberries and honey to his breakfast oatmeal. This is a perfect mean because everyone can make it how they like and it starts your day off on the right foot.
